Value-Creating Education Through Children's Books

My Background and Belief
I am a mother, a wife, a teacher, a global citizen, and a children's book author.
With 20+ years of experience in and around the early childhood classroom, I create children's books aimed at “cultivating in young minds a sense of peace, justice, and courage” (Boulding & Ikeda, 2010).
I believe that what young children are told about themselves, others, and the world determine the direction that society will move towards; therefore, children’s books can contribute to creating otherwise worlds rooted in hope, love, and human dignity.
My Inspiration
I am inspired to write children's books because of my more than two decades of experience as an early childhood educator, as well as my current studies at DePaul University on the topic of global citizenship education, a central concept expounded by three Japanese educators Tsunesaburo Makiguchi (1871-1944), Josei Toda (1900-1958), and Daisaku Ikeda (1928-2023).
I am the first to develop children’s books based on the global citizenship ethic inspired by Makiguchi, Toda, and Ikeda and I therefore represent a new voice in the field of children’s book writing. I am currently seeking representation.
My Aim
While drawing on the work of these three educators, my aim is to curate a collection of stories for children, and the people who read to them, that explore such topics as fostering global citizens, teaching the oneness of our lives and our environment, the importance of dialogue, human revolution, and our uniquely human ability to create value based on human agency.
